Advanced Classes

Advanced Producing	Advanced Editing Techniques
Advanced Camera & Directing	Scaffolding

Advanced Producing
Prerequisite: Studio or Truck Production
Duration: One 3-hour session
Description: “Advanced Producing” is a great way for producers to learn more about how to produce a program that utilizes either the studio or production truck. The class covers essential criteria from planning and reserving equipment, to recruiting and organizing a crew. Also covered are a variety of topics including how to do a site survey, obtaining permissions, safety, facility scheduling, care of equipment, indoor and outdoor lighting, announcer and camera locations.
Fee: $20 residents/$30 non-residents
Minimum: 2 students

Advanced Editing Techniques
Prerequisite: Final Cut Pro Editing
Description: Take your production to the next level by designing eye-catching titles, unique graphics, or sophisticated audio effects. This class goes in-depth with Final Cut Studio applications and is tailored for the student depending on which application and techniques he or she wishes to learn. The applications to choose from are LiveType, Motion, DVD Studio Pro, iDVD, and Soundtrack Pro.

Advanced Camera & Directing
Prerequisite: Studio or Truck Production
Duration: Five 3-hour sessions
Description: The first two sessions are for those who know basic camera operation and want to improve their camera skills. Topics include static and dynamic composition for television, practical terminology, techniques and camera movement. Emphasis is on practical applications, including coverage of various sporting events, as well as musical events and studio shoots. Class includes demos and exercises. Some time will also be devoted to covering the basics of directing multiple-camera shoots. Sessions three, four and five cover advanced directing techniques for studio and truck productions. Students will get the opportunity to improve their directing skills and learn the essential aspects to help produce a successful live or live-to-tape production. Class includes demos and hands-on training with the video switcher.
Fee: $40 residents/$55 non-residents

Scaffolding
Prerequisite: Truck Production or Basic Truck
Duration: One 3-hour session
Description: This class is required in order to utilize or assist with using scaffolding equipment for truck productions. Topics covered include setup, safety, rules for uses, tear down and storage of CTV scaffolding. Students will get hands-on experience unpacking the trailer and setting up the scaffolding in a variety of acceptable and safe configurations.
Fee: $10 residents and non-residents
Minimum: 2 students

Studio Production
Certification to become a Studio Producer or Crew Member on Studio Productions
Prerequisite: CTV 101
Duration: 3 session course.
Description: “Studio Production” includes five hours of studio training plus one session of serving as a crew member on a live studio production (cable commission meeting). Learn all basic crew positions in this class, including camera operator, audio, teleprompter, switcher, video playback, and graphics.

Camcorder
Certification to use Camcorders
Prerequisite: CTV 101
Duration: Two 2.5-hour sessions
Description: This class includes hands-on training with the Panasonic DVX-100 production camcorders and microphones. Students will be certified to check out portable equipment to use for their field productions.
Fee: $25 residents/$40 non-residents
Minimum: 2 students

Final Cut Pro Editing
Certification to use Final Cut Pro software at CTV
Prerequisite: CTV 101
Duration: Two 2.5-hour sessions
Description: Covers non-linear workflow through hands-on training and step-by-step instruction. Students are taken through each vital step of the editing process, from concept to final product. Topics include navigating the editing interface, capturing video, cutting together edited sequences, and exporting your project. Must have competent general computer skills to register. Students can purchase a copy of the Final Cut Pro Tutorial, Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro by Diana Weynand. Cost of the book: $50
Fee: $60 residents/$80 non-residents

Truck Production
Certification to be a Truck Producer
Prerequisite: CTV 101 & Studio Production
Note: Two sessions
Description: Get in-depth training on all crew positions for truck productions. This class includes instruction on setup and an overview of production truck crew positions including camera, audio board, switcher, graphics and video playback. Students will learn how to set up all essential equipment. During the second session, students will serve as crew during the recording of an actual event.
Fee: $35 residents/$50 non-residents

Basic Truck Crewing
Certification to be a “basic” level Crew Member for Truck Productions
Note: (One session)
Description: Learn just the basics for truck productions to serve as a camera operator on a truck shoot. It includes instruction on basic setup and an overview of the production camera, and is taught during an actual truck shoot. The dates, times, and locations vary depending on the truck schedule.
Fee: $10 residents and non-residents; Resident high school and college groups: FREE

Lighting Workshop
Duration: One 2-hour session
Description: This workshop will cover practical lighting tips for both studio and field productions. Students will get hands-on training with all types of lighting equipment, and will also get a better understanding of general lighting principles.
Fee: $20 residents/$30 non-residents
Minimum: 2 students

Audio Workshop
Duration: One 2-hour session
Description: Students will learn important aspects of audio that will dramatically enhance the production value of a shoot. Students will get hands-on training with a production audio board, as well as a wide array of mics and other audio equipment. This is an advanced class intended for those who have been doing audio on CTV shoots and want to advance to the next level.
Fee: $20 residents/$30 non-residents
Minimum: 2 students

Switcher Workshop
Duration: One 2-hour session
Description: This workshop will cover advanced switcher techniques along with more hands-on training. It’s a great opportunity to ask those questions on the switcher in a more casual environment.
Fee: $20 residents/$30 non-residents

Character Generator Workshop
Duration: One 3-hour session
Description: Students will learn important aspects of the character generator that will dramatically enhance their studio or truck shoot.

DVD Studio Pro Workshop
Duration: One 2-hour session
Description: Students will learn the basics of DVD Studio Pro software along with the ability to create menus and burn your own personalized DVD.
Fee: $20 residents/$30 non-residents
